Before you check out this feature, don’t forget to check out my initial picks of five other characters that should be in Injustice 2!
The Watchmen
Technically, this isn’t just one character. Nor should Netherrealm limit it to just one if they appear on the roster. But with DC’s latest reboot, Alan Moore’s legendary team has been canonized within the greater DC universe, and that means they are fair game as far as I’m concerned. Between Dr. Manhattan’s crazy powers, or even just the raw brutality of The Comedian or Rorschach, these guys are absolutely perfect for Netherrealm to work into a fighting game.
Black Canary
Given that characters like Batgirl and Zatanna made it into the first game, it’s kinda surprising that Black Canary was nowhere to be seen. However, Injustice 2 could give new life to the high-pitched super heroine, and with abilities utilizing sound and its properties to defeat her enemies, Netherrealm would have no problem working Canary into an incredibly unique character.
Dr. Fate
Dr. Fate seems like an absolute shoe-in for a game about fighting superhumans. An absolute master of magic in all of it’s forms, Dr. Fate is the amalgamation of the user and the distinctive helmet, which houses Nabu the Wise, one of the Lords of Order. He’s extremely powerful, and could be an excellent foil for characters like Wonder Woman and Superman. His magi abilities even lend themselves well to a character who could use trap setups to catch and juggle opponents, something Netherrealm has experience with from characters like Cyrax in Mortal Kombat 9.
Booster Gold
Another fan favorite that people were bummed to see left out of Injustice: Gods Among Us, Booster Gold is a mouthy metahuman who can throw down with the best of them. With powers including flight and projectiles, he would make a great alternative to a character like Supergirl or Superman, and could even incorporate air-dashes and airborne attacks for a unique edge.
Brainiac
The first Injustice seemed to suffer from a distinct lack of Superman villains, but Brainiac could be just the thing to correct that problem. With incredibly high intelligence, as well as the ability to summon and use tentacles to do his bidding, he is a zoning character waiting to happen. Nether realm could also do something really special with his armor, which would work well into their new gear system they have been touting for Injustice 2.
Injustice 2 is right around the corner. Releasing in less than a year, Netherrealm studios seems intent on taking advantage of every opportunity they can get to show off new characters. Here’s hoping they listen to the fans, and put some of these underrated heroes in at some point down the line. And even if they don’t at launch, there’s always DLC.
