Since E3, Capcom’s Dead Rising 4 has steadily been ramping up its ad campaign, building hype for the Holiday 2016 title. The return of Frank West to the original zombie-infested town of Willamette, Colorado looks to be bringing the post-apocalyptic carnage in a big way, especially if this latest trailer is anything to go by.
The trailer itself shows new footage from inside the newly constructed Willamette memorial Megaplex, assumed to be constructed after the tragic events of the first game. Somehow, Frank West ends up fighting zombies there again, through what is no doubt a series of entirely unforeseeable and unlucky events. He’s that kind of guy.
Of course, a Dead Rising trailer would be nothing without plenty of zombie-destroying carnage, and there is plenty of that to feast on as well. New weapons and abilities are shown off, including glorious selfies! We also get a closer look at the “mech suit”, which Frank had at his disposal during the E3 floor demo that some lucky attendees got their hands on. In the trailer, it can be seen punching a Humvee into a gaggle of zombies, as well as perfectly bisecting one of the poor undead saps. That part was my favorite to be honest.
Also, copious amount of explosions occur.
Author’s Opinion
While I personally wasn’t too hot on Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 3 due to a litany of awkward and sometimes frustrating design choices, the first Dead Rising title – and it’s endearing photojournalist protagonist- hold a special place in my heart. With the series transitioning back to the colorful palette of previous games, and looking to be amping up the craziness to a yet unseen degree, this could be exactly the kind of game to get me to shell out some cash in a very busy holiday season.
